Rules & Structure

MakeX Lunar will be conducted across three age-based categories: Starter, Explorer, and Challenger. Each category will be ranked independently, and the top-performing teams in each category will advance to the playoff stage.

Competition Format at a Glance

Stage Format
Qualification Rounds 3 matches per Participant
Qualification Ranking Best 2 scores are combined
Playoff Selection Top 8 teams from each category
Quarterfinals 8 teams → 4 Participants
Semifinals 4 teams → 2 Participants
Final 2 Participants → Winner + 1st Runner-Up
3rd-Place Match Determines 2nd Runner-Up

Each team will participate in three (3) qualification matches. Each match will be scored independently according to the official MakeX Lunar scoring system.

  • Every participating team receives three qualification attempts.
  • The score from each qualification match will be recorded separately.
  • All three qualification scores remain part of the official competition record.
  • Only the two highest scores will be considered for the qualification ranking.

Qualification Score = Best Qualification Score + Second-Best Qualification Score

Example: If a team scores 80, 95, and 70 points across its three qualification matches, its qualification score will be 95 + 80 = 175 points.

Teams will be ranked separately within the Starter, Explorer, and Challenger categories. The ranking will determine which teams advance to the playoffs.

The top eight (8) teams from each category, based on the qualification ranking, will advance to the playoff stage.

Category Qualification Ranking Playoff Teams
Starter Ranked independently Top 8
Explorer Ranked independently Top 8
Challenger Ranked independently Top 8

The playoff stage will be conducted separately for each of the three categories. The eight qualified teams in each category will compete through the following stages:

Playoff Stage Progression
Quarterfinals 8 teams → 4 teams
Semifinals 4 teams → 2 teams
Final 2 teams → Winner + 1st Runner-Up
3rd-Place Match Determines the 2nd Runner-Up

Three winners will be declared in each age category. The final standings will be:

Position Title Determined By
1st Winner Winner of the Final
2nd 1st Runner-Up Loser of the Final
3rd 2nd Runner-Up Winner of the 3rd-Place Match

If two or more teams have the same cumulative qualification score, the following tie-breaking order will be applied:

  1. Highest individual qualification-match score.
  2. Second-highest qualification-match score.
  3. Lowest cumulative time across the two counted qualification matches.
  4. Additional tie-break match, if the tie remains unresolved.

Each qualification and playoff match will be scored using the official MakeX Lunar mission-scoring system. The final match score will reflect the successful completion of missions and any applicable penalties or deductions defined in the competition rules.

  • All teams within a category will be evaluated using the same scoring criteria.
  • Qualification scores will be recorded and verified by the designated competition officials.
  • The qualification ranking determines playoff eligibility; playoff performance determines final podium positions.
  • The competition organizers reserve the right to resolve exceptional technical or procedural situations in accordance with the official competition rules.
